Macbeth Responses due Tuesday, 12/12

Please respond to the following questions, using specific support from the sections of the play we have read thus far.  You should handwrite your answers on the sheet provided by the sub under "Act One response" (turn in to the inbox when done).  Please turn in your responses before the end of this hour.

1.  SOLILOQUIES:  Choose one soliloquy delivered by Macbeth or Lady Macbeth thus far:
Act One, Scene 3, lines 127-144 (page 309)
Act One, Scene 5, lines 13-27 (pages 312-313)
Act One, Scene 5, lines 36-52 (page 313)
Act One, Scene 7, lines 1-28 (pages 315-316)
Act Two, Scene 1, lines 33-65 (pages 320-321)
Explain the soliloquy’s meaning and why it is important to know these innermost thoughts of this character.  What words or phrases are connected to the symbols of nature, blood, sleep, or sounds?

2.  SYMBOLISM
How is one of the symbols of nature, blood, sleep, or sounds, a part of Act One?  Go back and find evidence in lines to support this symbol being used by Shakespeare in Act One, pages 302-318.

3.  THEME OF GUILT OR REGRET
Do you think Macbeth regrets killing the king?  Find a few lines to support your answer, and explain why they support it.  Do you think Lady Macbeth regrets her involvement in the planning of the king’s murder?   Find a few lines to support your answer, and explain why they support it.
