Macbeth documents

If you are absent at any point during this unit, you should read the section(s) of the play which you missed in class for the day from the No Fear Shakespeare free version of Macbeth
and then complete the questions that accompany those reading sections.

Complete these questions in analytical response to:
Act One
(scene summaries for act one)
Act Two
Act Three
Act Four
Act Five

Additionally, take continuing notes on the development of themes while we read the play, and update your timeline of events regularly.

Responses to Act One:
       A.     Write about how circumstances, other people, and pressure can adversely affect your decision- making abilities.
       B.     Write about ways that a certain title or award can make one feel differently about  oneself.  Is this generally a negative or a positive effect?

Response to Act Two:
In a paragraph response, write about your own reaction to one of the symbols as it is used by Shakespeare in this act.  How does it hold both literal and symbolic meaning to the play thus far?

Responses to Act Three:
A.  Plot & Motives: What is Macbeth's next move?  What does he seem to be motivated by at this time?  Where do you predict these motives might lead him?
B.  Plot Turns:  Shakespeare often includes a turning point in Act Three in his plays.  How is Act Three a turning point in this play?  How do circumstances and roles change significantly in this act?

Response to Act Four:
Choose one of these traits (humility, vision, trust, competence, transparency, and stability) and explain how this trait plays an important role in being a leader.  Next, describe how Macbeth has failed as a leader in this respect, and if you believe Malcolm or MacDuff has proven strong leadership potential in the same respect.
