Prompt #1: Values of BRAVERY, LOYALTY, GENEROSITY, & HONOR
The values listed above were of strong importance to the Anglo-Saxons and still hold importance in our society today. Write about how you would define the importance of ONE of these values to you personally and in our modern society. Examine how you see this value reflected in Beowulf and an additional work that you are (or have) read. Finally, examine your own interpretation of this value as it applies to your life now, and your future.
Prompt #2: A HERO'S JOURNEY
Consider the elements to the hero's journey, as described at the link below. Read carefully through the steps to the journey, and then apply them to Beowulf. Examine and explain how his experiences followed this model, and give textual evidence and support for the existence of each step of the journey. Finally, explain why/if you believe Beowulf embodies the values of a hero in the Anglo-Saxon culture and today's modern culture.
