Women Writers of the Romantic Period

Please read and take notes using this guide (type answers on the PDF or write them on lined paper) on the following sections:

1.  Read about "Women Writers in the Romantic Period" on pp. 726-728.
Take some notes on the life and accomplishments of both Mary Shelley and Jane Austen.
2.  In the yellow shaded boxes are selections from each author's famous works.
Read and respond in a few sentences to what you notice about their writing style from these short excerpts.
3.  Finally, read about other popular books of the time period on p. 769.  Write about which of these books you might like to read and why.

Choose one of these two famous women authors of the era to learn more about today.

JANE AUSTEN

Go to http://www.janeausten.org to learn more about her biographically, and about the time period in which she lived.  Then, go on to read chapter one of one of her novels of your choice.
Then, go to one of the following resources to learn more about the continued influence of her works on the literary landscape today.
MARY SHELLEY

Go to https://www.bl.uk/people/mary-shelley to learn more about her biographically, and about the time period in which she lived.  Then, read one of the three related articles of your choice OR you may read the first letter, which is the opening of the novel in this online version of the novel.
Then, go to one of the following resources to learn more about the continued influence of her principal work Frankenstein on the horror genre today.
