Jonathan Swift

Read about Jonathan Swift and the context in which he lived and wrote about on p. 486.

"A Modest Proposal"
Go to this site for an annotated version of "A Modest Proposal," or read this from your textbook, starting on p. 502.
Use the handout in class to drive your discussion of this piece.
At the end, we will write a rhetorical precis together to express Swift's major purpose and how you see him looking to accomplish it.

Gulliver's Travels
Use this doc for activities with this reading piece.

Remember that Gulliver's Travels is an allegory, and the creative backstory that you imagine should also hold the characteristics of an allegory.  Use this site to give you some helpful insights as to how to brainstorm and plan an allegorical writing.
