- Social classes/class system: How do social classes or a class system play a role in your book? What are these “classes” and how/who determines them? What are the effects of social classes on the characters in the book? Finally, compare the social classes and their effects to those in Mansfield’s “The Doll’s House.”
- War or threat of war: What role does war or the threat of war play in your dystopian novel? How do these violent circumstances (or the potential of them) affect your characters and their motives? How is the society affected by this threat of war? How is the setting structured around and dependent upon this element of war or violence? Finally, compare the representation of war (or the threat thereof) presented by your dystopian author with those presented by Ben Okri in the short story "In the Shadow of War."

Religion: What role does religion play in your book? How does religion (or the lack thereof) affect your characters and their motives? How does the presence or absence of religion affect the dystopian society as a whole? Finally, compare the view on religion presented by your author to the picture of a world without religion presented by T.S. Eliot in “The Hollow Men.”
- Nature: How do elements of nature play an important role in your book? How does nature affect the characters and their actions? In what way is nature impacting the story line and what the characters are experiencing? Is your author expressing a certain view on nature or conservation of the Earth and its resources through his/her story? Finally, compare the representation of nature in your book with how nature is personified and examined in the poem "Hawk Roosting" by Ted Hughes.
