Nonfiction Outside Reading Book Reaction Journal Prompts

Macbeth Connections:
A. Macbeth is a play that is closely tied to the historical context in which it was written, responding in a creative manner to the political and social events of London in the time of its staging.  Discuss how your book is in reaction and in tune with the current times.  How do you see your author influenced by the occurrences of the world around him/her?  How is this book written to reflect the values and beliefs, as well as the cultural understandings, of modern society?  Explain fully with rich evidential support from the book.

B.  The characters within the play Macbeth are largely motivated and manipulated by the promises of power and prestige.  What are the main motivations and perhaps vices for the main subject of your book?  In what ways do you see these motivations driving the decisions and actions in this person's life?  OR, what do you believe to be the main appeals that this author is using to manipulate your opinions on the subject, and perhaps motivate you to act for change?  Explain fully with rich evidential support from the book.
