Poetry Writing assignment

We began with reading, and then responded to various aspects of both poems and compared them.  Finally, we wrote about how the rhetorical triangle applied to our interpretations of literature this semester.  After this, time was given to work on the poetry writing assignment (first hour) or responding to #1 and #7/#8 on page 242.

Directions for first hour:
Now it’s time for you all to seize the day and write your own poem!  You will write a poem on one of the following three topics:

1.        A modernized version of “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick.

2.      A modernized version of “To His Coy Mistress” by Andrew Marvell.

3.       An original poem on the theme of “Carpe Diem.”
There is no official line limit, but your poem must be at least two stanzas (no haikus, please!).  Your poem does not have to rhyme or follow the same pattern as the original if you are choosing options 1 or 2.
