Welcome to class and Happy Friday!
Today you will be working on a webquest that will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the background of your author and the influences on Orwell's audience's interpretations and his writing choices. The atmosphere in class is expected to remain quiet for the hour, with each person working silently and independently on the work provided. Any misuse of the iPad for non educational purposes will result in loss of the use of the device for the class period; this would make it impossible for you to complete the assignment today and would result in a ZERO for these assignments, so do not put yourself in this position.
Please go to this site to begin the webquest: http://1984webquest.blogspot.com/
As you work on the webquest, record your answers to the questions IN COMPLETE SENTENCES on a separate document either on paper or on the iPad in Pages or notes. Complete #1-19 in class; skip #20-25 for now, as you need access to YouTube to complete these questions. You are NOT responsible for completing Part II.
Please send me your webquest notes when you are done, or, if completed on paper, please turn them in to the sub.
Once you have completed this webquest, you may work on writing your explanation for how your selected news article relates to your issue discussed during class (the search for this article and extended writing on one of the topics from class discussion was begun earlier in the week). When putting together this explanation, be sure to include a link to this news story and then your extended writing about your opinion on the issue and how your news story relates well to the issue. Please send this to me via email by the end of class today, or for homework over the weekend.
Homework due Monday includes sending me the write up about how your news story relates to your extended opinion, and completing the reading of 1984 Part One, approximately 85 pages. When you have completed the written assignments for today, you are expected to be reading in 1984.
Thank you in advance for following these directions and cooperating with the substitute today.
