Active reading strategies with Act Four

Today, we set up a paper so that we could take active reading notes using the strategies discussed on Monday. These were the four categories we wrote on our sheet and used for note-taking throughout Act 4, scene 1.

Making Connections:
What connections can you make between Acts 1,2&3? (we wrote these down and discussed them together in class)
As we read in Act Four, what connections can you make between this act and the other three acts?

Self Questioning:
What questions do you have going into the start of Act Four? (we wrote these questions down)
What questions are you asking WHILE reading?

Visualization:
What are you able to imagine while reading?
(we considered this for previous reading and wrote down our responses)
Today, record what you are able to visualize well while you read.

Determining Importance:
At the end of each scene, we will pause and answer this question:
What are the main themes and significant events you can draw from this reading section?

IF YOU WERE ABSENT TODAY...you should set up a paper with four quadrants, and write each of these categories and questions, one in each box. Next, you should read Act Four, scene one and keep track of your reading responses in each of these four quadrants. Bring this paper to class tomorrow to continue active note taking throughout the remainder of Act Four.
