Journey poetry

Examine the following poems, all with similar themes of "the journey" and its ramifications.

"Night Journey" by Thoedore Roethke
"Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes
"The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost
"Up-Hill" by Christina Rossetti

Each of these poems uses metaphoric language (metaphors, similes, personification, etc.) and various methods of comparison as well as imagery and different forms/structures.

Use this journey poems document to record your thoughts in response to the steps below.

1.  First, for each poem, analyze the structure used by this poet, and the poet's use of devices of metaphoric language for comparison and imagery.
2.  Next, read each poem and compare how these authors all address the same theme but with different methods.
3.  Finally, write your own poem with the same title as one of the poems above.  At the end of your poem writing, write a 1-2 paragraph response in which you:  identify the poetic techniques of metaphoric language, imagery, and forms/structure, as they are used in your poem, AND explain how you feel your poem compares to the poem of the same title above.
This poem and response will be due on FRIDAY, 5/9.
