Today, we completed our discussion about the topics from yesterday, including objects of significance and lessons about humanity.
Finally, in small groups, we began a deconstruction of the text, looking for literary devices and analyzing how these are used to give meaning within the text.
The literary devices analyzed included:
Alliteration (read p.49 first paragraph and then do #1 on p. 49)
Kennings (read remainder of p. 49 and then do #2 on p. 49)
Imagery (read back over the text of Beowulf included in the book and pick out your top five favorite lines/sections for imagery, and explain why)
Foreshadowing= hints or clues given by author as to what is to come (read back over pp. 42-46 and look for examples of foreshadowing)
This literary device analysis will continue tomorrow in class and was not homework to be completed.
